Background
Career
In addition to his work with The Mediation Center, Jerry Pitt, throughout his career, has developed practical, effective solutions to many difficult common challenges. Here are some examples:
Jerry has long been active in helping organizations resolve workplace conflicts using an innovative combination of cost-effective conflict management skills and training programs.
As Program Director for Positive Choices from 2008-2013, he helped develop and implement a novel intervention derived from mediation skills to improve the health outcomes of HIV+ individuals in Indiana’s high-risk pool (ICHIA). In her report to Congress, Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius cited Positive Choices as exemplifying the kind of innovative programs her department encouraged and supported.
Jerry has worked with representatives of the Juvenile Court in Marion County, Indiana, in developing a Family Group Conferencing program that incorporated facilitation and conciliation techniques. The program helps parents who have lost children through the CHINS process, reunite with those children in a better environment.
On a part-time basis, Jerry Pitt serves as an Executive Career Mentor for Butler University College of Business, where he has also taught business law as an adjunct professor. He has also served as an adjunct at Purdue University School of Engineering and Technology (IUPUI), teaching a masters level course in conflict management, and as a faculty member for Sullivan University’s Master of Science in Dispute Resolution program.
